All 7 Princesses included in Top 20 Most Popular Female Artistes list

Singapore’s much anticipated Star Awards 2009 Top 40 Most Popular Male and Female Artistes nominees are finally revealed today!

“The Little Nyonya”, which swept 16 Best Category nominations announced earlier on, takes up 7 positions in the Top 40. This includes Best Actor/Actress nominees Qi Yu Wu, Pierre Png, Jeanette Aw and Joanne Peh, and Best Supporting Actor/Actress nominees Xiang Yun and Lin Mei Jiao, as well as Pan Ling Ling.

Of the Top 20 Female nominees, all 7 Princesses of Caldecott are in. Will Jeanette Aw claim back glory lost previously with her role as “Yueniang” in “The Little Nyonya”? Joanne Peh, who received accolades portraying the long-suffering “Yuzhu” in “The Little Nyonya”, may just get in this year after missing out on the previous 2 years.

Recent news about Jesseca Liu’s break-up with Taiwanese actor Fan Zhi Wei has not dampened her popularity, while Felicia Chin may just get into the Top 10 again this year as her hosting gig for “Campus Superstar 2” gains her more young fans. Rui En, Fiona Xie and sweet-young-thing Dawn Yeoh cap off the 7 Princesses for this year’s Top 20 Female nominees.

This year’s All-Time Favourite Artiste Award goes to Huang Biren, who now joins the ranks of Zoe Tay, Fann Wong, Chen Li Ping, Li Nan Xing, Chew Chor Meng and Xie Shaoguang. Will Christopher Lee and Mark Lee be able to garner their 10th spot this year and join the rest in this exclusive league?

The Top 40 Most Popular Nominees were selected and chosen via a poll of around 1000 people (age 7 and above) conducted by a media research company. 50% of the votes came from the research survey, while the other 50% were from public voting. Some ofhe Top 40 nominees were also present at a press conference this afternoon to pick their telepoll numbers. Voting lines open today, and will close on 26 April, 9.00pm. The results of the Top 40 will be revealed towards the end of the Star Awards 2009, 26 April, 7 pm ‘Live’ on Channel 8.
