Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! It’s someone many of us probably wouldn’t have heard of!
It’s Olivia Ong. Olivia who? OK…that’s natural…I reacted the same way when I was first given the name. According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Olivia Ong, born 2 October 1985 is a Singaporean singer. She sings mostly in English but develop her career singing in English and, later, Japanese.
Likened to Seiko Matsuda, she won a singing contest and was signed to a Japanese recording company at only 15.
After taking her O-level examinations in Singapore, Olivia moved to Japan to further her studies and career as a solo artist. In Japan, she became a member of a Japanese pop (J-pop) group called Mirai, before she released her bestselling début, "a girl meets bossanova" at only 19. With her sultry, soulful, pristine and innocent vocals, she reinterprets Frank Sinatra such as "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars" and other jazz and pop numbers. She is one of the new wave of Singapore talent being exported internationally.
I checked out her singing on youtube…aahhh….no wonder Olivia is ‘the chosen one’.

Young but there’s this emotional bonding in her voice. Innocent yet polished. ‘The Little Nyonya’ will be her first Mandarin album release in Asia.
Olivia will certainly gain even more widespread recognition overnight when the drama debuts on Channel 8 in late November. I am thinking of arranging for Olivia to sing at some of the outdoor shows and introduce this very talented new artiste to all of you…(well...new to Mandarin singing lah...she started singing years ago and with a couple of albums already selling in Asia, she is actually more experienced than many artistes).
Before she becomes a household name with 'The Little Nyonya', I hear there'll be more news of Olivia next week (we don't even know what she is called in Chinese!)...
So, are you all happy with the 'chosen one'? Give people a chance lah....
